It is important to be prepared at least 10 minutes before a Yoga Nidra session starts. Please, make sure:
In a time of practice, the best position is lying down on a floor in a shavasana ("corpse pose"). Before starting a session, it is recommended to have a pillow or soft item to place under your head. As well as having a blanket to cover yourself, as you may feel cold when body is relaxed.
If necessary, you can make some additional adjustments to any part of your body in advance.
The structure of Yoga Nidra consists of three successive stages:
It could be impressions, conversations, memories from your past. You should try to not be involved in these old memories and observe it from a distance. Consider it as a river carrying this information and then flowing away. Learn to be a passive witness, when unnecessary information is releasing from your brain.
All you have to do is to follow my instructions effortlessly, during Yoga Nidra session.
If some sensitive or disturbing memories are coming and you cannot handle it, you can squeeze your hands, breath deeply, turn your body to the right side, open your eyes. When tension is gone, you can close your eyes, back your body to a normal position, continue Yoga Nidra session or stop it at any time.
What is coming up from your memory archive is coming to go..
Sleeping through the session and not remembering anything, that's also a good outcome. It means your body and mind are overwhelmed. As soon as all tension and stress are released, you become able to practice Yoga Nidra without falling asleep.
Yoga Nidra is a transformative experience for your body and mind. You should try to avoid using electronic devices, driving a car, coming back to your daily routine right after the session. Please make sure to have 10-15 mins rest after a session.
It will also be helpful for you to 'ground' if you eat or drink something sweet after your practice.
For some time after, you may feel irritation, angriness, fear or some other emotions. Please mark these feelings and make notes to see a progress. The more you practice Yoga Nidra, the less disturbing emotions are coming after your practice.
Yoga Nidra can be practiced at any time of your day. You can practice it as often, as you feel comfortable with.
